ABC partnered with the Mondawmin Community, M&T Bank and local nonprofit and housing agencies to sponsor a financial education workshop on April 7th at the Gwynns Falls Elementary School. The event featured workshops designed to educate residents on how to obtain and manage credit, create and maintain a household budget, homeownership readiness and how to understand the foreclosure process whether you’re a homeowner or renter. Exhibitors and workshop sponsors included Baltimore CASH, Consumer Credit Counseling Services, College Savings Plans of MD, Garwyn Oaks Northwest Housing Resource Center, HUD and M&T Bank. It’s time again for ABC’s Annual Gala Event on June 11th and it’s an event that you don’t want to miss! This year we’re honoring African-American leaders in corporations and boardrooms whose achievements and behind the scenes work have made a difference in our community. We are honored to have as our co-chairs two very accomplished business leaders, Eddie Brown, President/CEO of Brown Capital Management and Mayo Shattuck, Chairman, President/CEO of Constellation Energy.
We’re also featuring lots of great entertainment including the Jolley Brothers, Chelsey Green, Delandria Mills and Spur of the Moment. Our Co-Masters of Ceremony this year are Mike Cryor of the Cryor Group and Kai Jackson of WJZ-TV 13.
Our recent “A Gathering of Women” book signing with Soledad O’Brien drew an enthusiastic audience of nearly 200 women who came out to this exciting event. The award-winning journalist is currently promoting her book, The Next Big Story: My Journey through the Land of Possibilities, which chronicles her biggest reporting moments and how her upbringing and mixed-race background have influenced these experiences.
Well known for her hard-hitting coverage of Katrina and for producing the acclaimed Black in America documentary series, O’Brien has created a new space for exploring discussions of race in America. She shared some of the highlights of her career and her passion for telling the stories of our community. ABC was excited to host Soledad’s visit and is looking forward to working with her more in the future so stay tuned!
