Volunteer Career Mentor Program

Associated Black Charities has successfully launched the 1st Inaugural cohort of Volunteer Career Mentors/Mentees.  ABC is proud of this initiative that’s designed to meet the needs of low wage workers of color who have a strong desire for career advancement but currently lack the career advancement skills that would ensure their upward mobility in the hospitality/healthcare industries.  The program design includes 12- career development and mentoring sessions, structured over a 6-month period.

ABC has partnered with strong community partners like United Way of Central Maryland, AARP of Maryland and Comcast to ensure the sustainability of this program. ABC will launch its next cohort of Volunteer Career Mentors/Mentees in November 2014 and project to launch their year ending cohort in January 2015.

ABC relies on committed industry partners and employers along with dedicated volunteers  to make the program a success in the areas of growth potential  and enhancing the region’s economy.

I am happy that I took part in the volunteer program. My expectations thus far are exactly as I thought and more.. It is a great feeling to know that you can help someone through his/her career. In addition, learning some new things along the way. It is truly a great feeling to give back. I have had mentors in the past and I am confident that the feeling that I have so far are the same ones that the mentors I had in the past shared.
