Community of Practice

About The Program

The Workforce and Racial Equity Community of Practice is a learning community for workforce practitioners committed to advancing racial equity within the field of workforce development. This Community of Practice is convened by Associated Black Charities and sponsored by PNC and the Annie E. Casey Foundation. Its initial session was in May 2017 and is comprised of workforce practitioners, program directors/managers, case managers and training providers representing almost 300 individuals from almost 100 different organizations throughout Baltimore City and County.

We have become a working group of colleagues from across organizations that are focused on building our collective capacities and leading the effort to embed a racial equity lens within our respective organizations and spheres of influence. We see this community of practice as an opportunity to deepen our understanding of the intersections between structural & institutional racism, implicit bias and the field of workforce development. Once we understand how racialized barriers manifest themselves in our own organizations, we can move towards making changes that will lead to a more racially equitable community and society for all.

This Community of Practice meets quarterly (four times/year) and will work together to analyze and address the myriad of race-based barriers that prevent our participants from achieving their own employment goals.

If you are interested in learning more about the Community of Practice or joining our mailing list to be notified of future convenings, please reach out to Jon Law at This space is specifically for workforce development providers and practitioners within the Baltimore region; we ask those in funding or grantmaking roles to please not participate.
